Fr. John McCormack – RIP

John McCormack

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of our colleague Fr. John.

Fr. John was curate in Breaffy where he had resided since 2007.  He was a gentle, kind,  compassionate and caring priest, who had great empathy for people.  He comforted and helped so many in Castlebar Parish and did so much for Breaffy community.  He was at the heart of all important events both happy and sad in Breaffy.

He had a great love and respect for all age groups and he particularly empowered young people.  He introduced the Peer 4 Peer Programme for Transition Year students in Castlebar Parish.  He thought outside the box and was eager to find any opportunity for young people to participate in the life of the church.

Fr. John was ordained for the Society of African Missionaries in 1969.  He served in Liberia, Africa from 1970-1985 and in The Philippines from 1985-1999.  He also ministered in Irishtown from 1999-2002 and Moylough from 2002-2007 before becoming curate in Breaffy.

May the Lord keep Fr. John close and support all who grieve at this time.
